Decision Maker: Worthing Cabinet Member for Regeneration

Decision status: For Determination

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

The Executive Member for Regeneration has agreed to release £40,000 towards the provision of the recently completed footpath and agreed that this is added to the capital programme for 2020/21.

Reasons for the decision:

The provision of sustainable transport, whether cycling or walking forms part of various strategies adopted by this council. I note the concerns raised by the officer in the report about this being for a path, rather than the planned dual walking and cycling route. This is disappointing and represents a missed opportunity. Nonetheless the provision of this route is still important linking key modal points within the West Durrington to Goring conurbation.

Alternative options considered:

1.     not to support this request - option dismissed

2.     not to support this request and send it back for revision - option dismissed on grounds that the report has identified that the path construction does lend itself to future conversion and causing greater delay would disadvantage the local community.
